In December 2023, EQAR (European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education) renewed MAB’s registration, which was awarded in 2018 for the first time, for an additional five years until October 31, 2028. This recognition further strengthens the position of Hungary’s higher education quality assessment and accreditation system in the international environment. EQAR is the official register of quality assurance agencies in the European Higher Education Area, and its Register Committee (RC) assessed positively the application submitted for the extension of MAB’s registration in December 2023.
The renewal of the registration was preceded by five years of continuous development and active preparation, which included the external evaluation of MAB coordinated by ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education). The external evaluation report was examined by the ENQA Agency Review Committee (ARC), which subsequently approved it, allowing MAB to submit its application for the extension of registration to EQAR.
The extension of EQAR registration is equally important for both MAB and the entire Hungarian higher education. The renewal of the registration will ensure that those, who are seeking for partnerships with higher education institutions, will have continuous access to credible and up-to-date information about the MAB’s evaluation procedures, as well as the quality assurance of Hungarian higher education institutions and training programmes, and the results of external evaluations. This also means that MAB’s decisions and reports are still available in the DEQAR database (Database of External Quality Assurance Results) ensuring the international recognition of the accreditations.
One of MAB’s missions is to take an active role in the international system of quality assurance, to participate in decision makings concerning the strategic and methodological issues of quality assessment, to implement them in the Hungarian system and to share its knowledge with Hungarian higher education institutions.
