Institutional accreditation

In its fourth institutional accreditation cycle, the HAC evaluates universities and colleges by focusing on their internal quality assurance systems in order to determine their capacity for ensuring the quality of education, research and artistic activity. The HAC’s criteria [ezt linkelni a bírálati útmutatóhoz, akkor is ha magyar!], based on Part 1 of the ESG, assess how the institution applies the European Standards on all levels of its organization, and how it plans, executes, checks and follows up on its quality assurance activities.

Site-visit panels are composed of experts with experience in institutional leadership, quality assurance, the student perspective and the academic profile of the university or college. A HAC programme officer coordinates the process and participates in the site visit. The panel may suggest three levels of accreditation:

  • Accredited for five years
  • Accredited for a shorter period with a set deadline
  • Not accredited.

The accreditation decision is passed by the HAC Board.

Institutions evaluated by a quality assurance agency registered in EQAR or which is a member of ENQA is are accredited following the HAC Regulation on its Recognition of Accreditation Issued by Another Entity for a Higher Education Institution or Programme.
